About the Bird

The kiwi is a biological oddity and full of character. More than any other native animal, they are entwined in our identity as New Zealanders.

Allowing kiwi to disappear would be an ecological disaster, an international embarrassment and the monumental loss of an intriguing bird genetically unchanged for millions of years.

Saving kiwi brings communities together, creates employment and helps restore native forest and habitat for other species. In a changing climate, Trust-supported restoration plantings are positive steps toward sequestering carbon, improving air and water quality, preventing erosion, building soil health...
